—Essentially anyone over the age of 14. Electric bikes are the future of cycling. Year on year, the proportion of the total bike sales comprised of electric bikes is increasing.

A few examples of types of electric bike owners:

Commuters.

—For many people living in urban environments, the commuting time to the workplace can be reduced by travelling by bicycle. Many commuters have been hesitant to switch to a bike because of the exertion element or the risk of arriving to work in a sweat. Electric bikes allow cyclists to travel faster with less effort so chances are you can get to work faster than on public transport, avoid the congested train or bus without breaking a sweat.

Money savers.

—Following on from the commuters, people wanting to reduce the cost of transport are turning to electric bikes. With up to 50 miles on one charge (depending on the bike), you can almost eliminate the cost of the daily commute.

The environmentally conscious.

—Urban pollution is a world wide issue. E-bikes are zero-emissions vehicles, as they emit no combustion by-products so you can reduce your cabon footprint significantly.

Cyclists wanting to cycle further and on incline routes.

—Many people would cycle if they didn’t live in hilly areas. The electric bike can get you on two wheels and up the hills. It can also allow you to travel further than on conventional bikes because you know with the assisted power you can manage the distance.

Fitness enthusiasts.

—E-bike use has been proven to increase the amount of physical activity. A study found that E-bike users in 7 European cities had 10% higher weekly energy expenditure than other cyclists because they cycled longer trips.

Riders with health conditions.

—People who more generally need some assistance, for example people with heart, leg muscle or knee joint issues can feel comfortable riding an electric bike as they know they’ll get some exercise without the full exertion required on a conventional bike.

The ‘Once-a-year cyclists’.

—According to a report by the Transport Research Laboratory, regular bikes see the light of day fewer than 25 times a year, with 46% being used just once or twice a week.

However, 30% of people with electric bikes use them once a day, and an incredible 81% ride them at least once a week. This suggests e-bike owners are twice as likely as regular riders to get out there and ride.

—Electric scooters are recommended for people aged 8 and above.

—You should consider an electric bike just the same as a bike. You can ride an electric bike anywhere you can ride your regular bike.

—Currently, you can't ride it on a EU public road, cycle lane or pavement. Anyone who does is committing an offence. The only place an e-scooter can be used is on private land, with the permission of the landowner.

—No you don’t and we only offer bikes that do not require a license or insurance.

—The rider must be 14 or above.

—As long as these rules apply to your bike you don’t need a license.

—Electric bikes cannot surpass an assisted speed of 15.5mph. This doesn’t mean you cant ride faster than 15.5 mph, if you pedal faster there is not top speed but the electric assistance will only be able the be applied up to 15.5mph.

—Some people assume electric bikes recharge like some electric cars but this isn the case.

—All our electric bikes are fitted with lithium ion batteries. The general charge time is around 3.5 hours but this depends on the model.

—There is no extra care necessary. Just avoid leaving the battery without charge for long periods of time. All our bikes come with the highest quality battery packs so they’ll keep you powered.

—All our electric bikes have pedals, and the electric assistance is via a crank drive motor that is applied whilst pedalling. There is no way to engage the charge with a throttle for example, you need to pedal.

—Very little! Simply the cost of a few hours of mains charge.
